This is an independent life cycle analysis project for Ceres Greenhouse Solutions. The project goal was to examine the environmental impacts of a Ceres greenhouse in comparison to a traditional style greenhouse of the same size.
The results of this analysis suggest that the construction of a Ceres greenhouse requires about 30% more energy for the manufacturing and shipping of materials. However, Ceres greenhouses use much less energy during operation than a traditional greenhouse and the difference in energy in the materials is offset within the first year.
EarthSmart LCA software was used to analyze six impact categories of the materials and processes. Additional research on the materials and processes was conducted through online research and interviews.
